When I was younger although I would participate in self-care activities, I didn’t really understand the importance of practising these regularly. I would say in the past year I have ensured I take time to show myself, care and self love. Self-care activities are such a useful tool especially when I am suffering badly with my anxiety. I make a point on Sundays of making me take some “me” time.
Its sad to say but I have never really felt confident with my body (I’m sure there a few other people who can relate to this statement). However, I am on a journey to change all of that. Part of the journey is to show myself care and love. As well as changing my eating habits and exercising more. If you would like to see a post about that journey, be sure to let me know.
“Self-compassion is simply giving the same kinds to ourselves, that we would give to others”-Christopher Germer
So here are the 5 of my favourite things to do on my self-care Sunday:
Apply a face mask – A self-care day for me, always consists of a face mask. There is something so relaxing about having a face mask. Either whilst having a soak in the bath or just catching up on blog posts whilst it does its magic. Practising good skincare is so important you only have one face!

Write in my journal/or a blog post – There is something so therapeutic about writing down my thoughts/feelings and about my day. It helps to clear my head which helps me to relax. Especially if I have had a bad day, or suffering badly from my anxiety. I love writing blog posts also, I get to put all my passion into my writing, helps me to focus on my mind. Then engaging with other bloggers and getting positive feedback, makes me feel happy.

Listen to some music – Music manages to comfort me no matter what mood I am in. I have set up lots of different playlists on Spotify which I can choose depending on what I am doing. Music motivates me when I am writing blog posts, working out at the gym or even doing the housework (however, I sometimes end up doing more dancing than housework, haha!).

Colouring or doodling – If you have been reading my blog posts, or follow me on any social media you will know that I am completely stationery obsessed! Ever since I was in primary school, I would always be so excited about buying new stationery. Even now, I love to colour and doodle. I love being creative. It is my go activity when I am feeling anxious, it focuses my mind.

A regular skincare routine – Taking care of your skin is so important, like I said previously you only get one face so you must nourish it. After having my morning and evening skincare routine, my skin feels so refreshed and it makes me feel so much better in myself. I like to use a variety of products from different cruelty free brands. What is your go to skincare brand and products?

Exercise – Now, I do not mean that you must go to the gym 7 days a week for an hour at a time. Exercise does not have to be purely in a gym. It can be putting the hoover around the house, going for a walk, doing an exercise DVD. Just a few things that you can do, to get yourself moving that doesn’t involve a gym. But being active, releases endorphins, makes you feel good and also helps relieve anxiety and depression.
Other ways to show yourself care and love can be:
- Spend time with family or friends
- Go for a walk
- Eat well
- Treat yourself
- Watch some tv or Netflix
- Take a long bath or shower
- Have an early night or have a lie in
- Go for a massage (If any brands are reading and would like to offer me one, I wouldn’t say no, haha!)
Remember to look after yourself, your physical and mental health it is so important. What do you do to show yourself some self-care?
Some great tips here! I love working out, face masks and long, hot baths. I find sundays so relaxing.

I love to go to the gym on a Sunday, it’s so much more enjoyable than going after work. Also a Sunday roast is my favourite with a film to finish the week perfectly! Lovely post.

A real skin care routine is what I really lack. Like I’ve been saying ima start one for months and have done nothing. This is such a great post and I love your suggestions! I also add yoga and doing my nails as a way for self care while waiting on my face mask to dry (face masks are my kryptonite) great post!

I love listening to music…I totally relate to ending up doing more dancing than housework part HAHA! At one point I just had to stop myself from listening to music when I had chores to do.
And I do workouts as well.. 5 days a week 🙂

I love your suggestions:) I have to say practicing a regular skin care routine, makes me feel like I am doing something for myself. I don’t have to much time to fiddle with my look so having these few moments for myself every morning makes me feel good. Lovely post Lauren.

This are simple and great ways to relax and also take care of yourself. Sundays I usually prefer to take a loooong bubble bath with a book and glass of wine. That is for me the supreme relaxation moment before another week in work.😍😍

Love this post! I’ve got a few adult colouring books and used to love doing them to take my mind off things but I haven’t done any for ages! I love reading or going for a walk when having some ‘me’ time! My Sunday this week has been full of tidying my room and cleaning makeup brushes and although I hate doing chores like this I always feel so much better after having a productive day!

I think your first tip is one that my mother told me years ago. You only have one face so it’s worth spending time, attention, and (if necessary) money on it to maintain your skin. It’s something I try to live by too. And I’m with you on music and housework, anything to make that task go by quicker! I love your shoutout to the massage brands – fingers crossed one or more of them take you up on your offer 🙂 lovely post, Lauren, thank you for sharing your tips xx

I really love the Christopher Germer you used. I’m always the last person I think of and would much rather spend my time looking after everyone else. But when you take some time for yourself you realise just how much you need it and what a difference it makes.
