As I was poorly last week I missed most of National Stationery Week, I decided I would post these certain posts this week and share them with you. Hope you like all things stationery….
I started bullet journalling in January 2017. I had heard about it through my auntie and the youtuber Lily Pebbles. I have always loved keeping diaries, so I thought I would try bullet journalling and I loved it. I thought I would share 5 things to know when you are starting a bullet journalling.
- Use your index pages
When you start to fill in your bullet journal, you should fill in the index. I found it is easier to find pages more efficiently. Especially when it starts to fill up with content.
2. Do not get too overwhelmed by some very creative and detailed bullet journals that you may see online
If you search online about bullet journals, you will be met with a huge amount of creative and artistic designs and layouts. However, even if you are not artistic you can still use a bullet journal. The great thing about bullet journals is you can tailor them to how you want them to look, so they can be as simple or as artistic as you want it to be. You can always add design and colour later on. As I continued bullet journalling my confidence grew and I became more creative with my layouts and designs.
3. Pinterest is great inspiration
There are so many posts on Pinterest about bullet journalling . Ideas for content and different layouts. I can spend so much time scrolling through and pinning so many creative ideas. I would definitely recommend searching Pinterest if you are struggling with what to do. You can always check out my Pinterest as I have plenty of pins all about bullet journals.
4. Don’t be afraid to experiment or make mistakes
I often have doodle pages where I practice titles, drawings and designs. I have made mistakes with designs or unhappy with titles. But for me it was a learning process how to create new designs and looks. So do not worry. My style and designs are always changing.
5. You do not need the most expensive or elaborate stationery
I opted to get the Leuchtturm1917 bullet journals. The basic ones are £12.99 and newest designs are £19.99. But you can get less expensive notebooks dotted, lined or even plain pages. So if you want to start a bullet journal then you should.
I hope some of these tips or advice help you when you are thinking about or have started a bullet journal. Just remember everyone will want to include different content, designs and there is not specific information you have to include. Its tailored to you.
Do you have a bullet journal? Have you got any other tips for people who are wanting to start a bullet journal, if so leave them below or a link to your blog post.
Great tips! I think not getting overwhelmed is the most important thing, and the thing that held me back the longest xx

I totally agree with these! One thing I also think is important is to not compare your own journal to ones you see online. Just because you’re not an artist, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a great bullet journal!!

Aw, I’m so sorry you were unwell last week, I hope you’re feeling better now. This is a lovely post, full of great tips. My favourite one is not to get overwhelmed by other creative and detailed bullet journals that you might see. I started my BuJo in February this year after I was lucky enough to be sent one by some stationery friends. It’s just a plain dotted notebook with spiral binding but I’m finding it so useful, I don’t know how I managed to blog before now! x

I always feel so intimidated by the bullet journals online as mine is just black and white but I agree that a bullet journal should be unique to you and be what you make of it. You have really nice handwriting! xx

Brilliant tips Lauren, I really want to get a bullet journal and seeing all the amazing elaborate and pretty designs that people create makes me want one even more but it’s also quite intimidating to see all these stunning bullet journals people have created, I’m so glad you covered it in your post.

Your Bujo cover is adorable! I love all the little watermelons. And these are really good tips. I tried bullet journalling a year or so ago but I just do not have the patience to make spreads every month and every week, that is way too much work for me! But I adore seeing what other people come up with an incorporating inspiration from peoples’ bujos into my own journalling and planning system.

I have been pretty slack past couple of months on it. So definitely getting back into it. Thank you, I love those watermelon stickers, they are from paper chase xx

Thank you for this post and really loved the fact you said not too get caught up in the hype of full on creative spreads. I always find I cannot keep these up and then I end up not continuing with my Bullet journal.
