6 ways to show gratitude

I have had such a lovely few weeks spending time with some special people, attending events and been surrounded by so much positivity. I thought I would carry this feeling on with my blog post today and tell you some of the ways I show gratitude. It is so important that you appreciate what you have, as many are not as fortunate.

Sending Thank You cards

I can remember doing this from a young age, after our birthday parties I would send thank you notes as my mum would list who gave what etc. Maybe thats where I get my stationery and organisation traits from haha! More so now, probably because I am getting older but I love going card shopping and always have a collection of cards as you never know when you are going to need one. I love sending out little cards to say thank you and to show how much I appreciated their help or support. It is such a small gesture, but can really mean so much to that person and then they feel appreciated.

Write what you are grateful for in your journal

I keep a journal and I like to write down what I am grateful for each day. It also shows that although you may have a bad part to the day or week you can look back and see that each week you have plenty to be grateful for.

Be a good listener and give eye contact when talking to others

Simple manners springs to mind. It is important to show that person that you appreciative of their time. Gratitude in your relationships with your family and friends is a must.

Surprise family and friends with gifts or kind gestures

I love doing this, I believe in the “Its better to give than to receive”. I recently surprised my baby sister with tickets to see Demi Lovato you can see that post here. I love to be able to treat others and show my appreciation.

Donate to charity or volunteer your time

Although sometimes I may go through stressful situations , I know I am so lucky in so many ways. Whenever I can I donate to charity whether thats sponsoring a friend for an event, donating online or buying food and drink for someone who is homeless. I feel its important to give back to the universe and put out positive energy.

List things you have achieved so far

Sometimes I get caught up focusing on what I haven’t achieved yet, (is this just me? Haha) that I forget about all that I have achieved up until this point. I haven’t practised this one yet, but I am going to dedicate a page or two to writing down everything I have achieved and that I am proud of. I can reflect and hopefully it will inspire me to achieve more.

How do you like to show gratitude in your life?

  1. Love love love this post. I feel that you wrote this with me in mind. This is one of the best advice and pieces ever written because this is something that I thrive on. In fact it is something that I make a song and dance over because it is so underrated. I honestly don’t know many people who actually perform these but have to say am fortunate to be the ones that do. Manners do not cost a thing but yet it is something that is so hard for others to express and show. Go figure but I wish that there were more people in the world who could show kindness like this. Good people are hard to find these days.

  2. I like to pay it forward. Doing things for strangers I don’t know. Showering my friends adn family with appreciation is also a favorite! I never actually physically write down lists but I do make mental lists on a regular basis before and during my meditation!

  4. You have such a wonderful attitude. I have always sent thank you notes, trying to get my kids to do it was harder. I love getting mail that is not a bill, I am sure we all do. I try to compliment a random person everyday. I feel that they will be appreciative and maybe pass that feeling on.

  7. I think it’s important to show gratitude as well as to be grateful of what we currently have. All these ideas are super lovely, especially donating and volunteering our time. It might be a small act for us but it could mean the world to someone else. Thank you for sharing this, Lauren! I think I should also list the things I’m grateful for everyday in my journal 😀

  8. Ah, this is a lovely post. I completely agree with you about writing thank you cards and I make Flora do them as well. i don’t hold with this round robin texting after birthdays, and I don’t want her growing up thinking that’s OK. And eye contact is so important too, no-one needs to be superglued to their phone all the time – really! xx
