10 ways you can show kindness

Sometimes with everything going on in the world and in our lives individually, it can sometimes feel like there is so much negativity or stress and not enough light. I saw kindness challenges on Pinterest and it got me thinking about random acts of kindness I could action to make others smile. I thought I would share 10 of the random acts of kindness I came up with.

Smile at a stranger or say good morning

This could for some people be the only interaction they might have that day, so it could make such a difference to their day. Smiling is infectious.

Treat a family member or friend

Buying a gift, even the smallest gesture for family and friends can make them smile and feel happy. But also make them feel appreciated.

Put together a care package for someone is feeling unwell

When people ate feeling unwell it can make people feel so down, so by giving some a care package can make them feel a bit happier and show them that you are thinking of them.

Send a letter or a card to someone

Not as a birthday or a holiday occasion but just a letter or card to show you are thinking about them and update one another on each others’ lives.

Pay someone a compliment

Telling someone they are wearing something you like for example a nice top or if they are wearing their hair differently and it looks nice. It an make someone feel good about themselves and more confident. As thats how I certainly feel when someone pays me a compliment.

Treat yourself

Showing kindness to others is great but many people (including myself) forget to or are not kind to themselves. Si make sure you treat yourself whether that be treating yourself by buying something you’ve always wanted, a bit of pampering or even just be kind when talking about yourself. No put downs!

Donate to a charity

Whether that be through your own sponsored activity, supporting others who are doing a sponsored activity. Donate online or donate your time to help at a charity event or shelter.

Leave a generous tip for your waiter/waitress

This is kind especially close to Christmas when venues are getting busier and people are having to work over the Christmas period. It is always great to show your appreciation. Pay it forward is such a true statement.

Buy a homeless person some food or drink

I always try to do this as much as possible because for me I am very fortunate to be able to buy plenty of food and have food in my home. So to me, buying some food and drink so they can actually eat that day and it will always make such a difference to their day.

Leave a positive comment on a blog post you have enjoyed

I think this is so important, when I come across a blog post that I enjoyed, I always like to leave a positive comment telling the blogger that I enjoyed reading their post. It doesn’t take long, but means the world to that person.

What ways you like to show kindness to yourself and others? I would love to hear in the comments.

  1. This is such a lovely post as it is something we should be doing all of the time to make our lives and others so positive and radiant. My dad does a random act of kindness everyday and I have tried to pick up the habit because I feel like it really benefits your life as well as others. A great post with a great message!

  3. This week I’ve bought food for the foodbank and I’ve given money to the Rotary Club, who make Christmas food parcels for the elderly in our area. It’s a simple donation but it’s become a yearly habit as I like to send out happy thoughts and good karma to people. It really doesn’t cost the earth to be nice, like you said, a smile and a nod at a person can make them feel special.

  4. I do believe that being kind to others is important. You never know where someone is in life and what they are going through.
You mentioned leaving a generous tip, that something I always make sure to do. People that make tips usually need it. Leaving a nice comment on a blog is also another one of my favorites. You know how hard we work on our blogs, its rewarding to connect with our readers. This was a really nice post.

  5. I agree word for word! And the bit about smiling at a stranger is so true! I try to do that whenever I’m out but I’ve also been at a receiving end when I’m having a bad day and someone’s smiles at me it really does instantly brightens your day!

  6. I love these ways to show kindness and a lot doesn’t require money at all. It just requires you to speak up or do an expression that lifts the mood up. YESS on compliments! They go a long way, especially with helping people’s self-esteem. I’ve left generous tips for places I go to often – it goes a long way with establishing a relationship. Thanks for sharing these ideas!

  7. Those are great reminders of the little things we can do to be kind! I appreciated you had listed to treat yourself in it. I think that’s very easily forgotten because when I think of showing kindness, it’s usually on the outside to others! But we should never forget about ourselves, and this way we can continue to have the energy to be kind to others 😊

  9. These are some lovely ideas. It costs very little to give something back and do something nice for someone else. Whether that’s time or a warming drink for a homeless person.
