My 5 Blogging Essentials

Every blogger works differently when it comes to running their blog and have different perspective on what their essentials are. When I first started blogging, I didn’t use some of these. I have changed and I am constantly learning and evolving. I thought I would share my 5 blogger essentials that allow me to run my blog.

1. My Camera

My current camera that I am using is the Canon PowerShot SX530 HS. This was my first proper camera and it has been great to get to learn about photography. I love being able to experiment with photographs and to edit them. I am hoping to learn more about photography, so I can develop more.

2. My Notebook

I like to use my notebook to draft blog posts, I love to put pen to paper before I type. I have done it this way ever since I started blogging, this way works for me. I also use it to plan my blogging schedule for the upcoming month. This helps me stay organised and to be able to post on my blog consistently. If you want to read about these notebooks from Say Nice Things you can read the posts here and here.

3. My Planner

I use my planner to help keep track of when blog posts are going live, but also to include work I need to do on my blog and I can go through and check them off as well as usual planning. This means I stay organised and do not get overwhelmed and miss posting dates. If you want to see how I use my planner you can read that post here.

My Happy Planner, I haven’t fully planned my week off.

4. My Phone and My Macbook

I include these together because I use them for the same things. Uploading content to social media, my blog, for networking with others and for editing. Having everything on my phone means if I am travelling or not at home, I can still access all my content and social medias through my phone to promote my blog.

5. Photography Props

I know this probably will not be on everyone’s essentials list but I like to experiment and make the photographs as creative as I can. I like shopping for blog props too, any excuse to shop really ha ha! Photography props I use are: wooden hearts, wooden stars, wrapping paper, prints to name a few.

These are my 5 blogger essentials. In an upcoming post I will be sharing my go-to apps and websites for running my blog which is why I have not included these in my essentials list.

What are some of your blogging essentials? I’d love to hear in the comments.

  1. My phone which is mainly where I blog from, but occasionally my Mac computer. I use my phone mainly to take pictures for my blog too, but I have a compact camera.

My notebook where I like to start writing my draft posts too as well as making other notes associated with my blog, or blogging in some way.

And I use a paper schedule, so I can see what blog posts I have ready scheduled at a glance, away from my phone, as well as little odd reminders.

  2. Our list is a bit similar except that I use more phone than my camera now lol. And having a notebook to jot down ideas is a must. I actually plan to use my iPad for idea bank but a small notebook is much more convenient to have.

I don’t have a blog planner because I use the editorial calendar plugin and google sheets to keep track on what to post and when to schedule them.

Would love to see more of you blogging props x I’ve been experimenting with duvet, blanket, books and even bought fake flowers lol.

  3. πŸ™‚ Lauren, you appear to be a well-organized blogger.

There are a lot of bloggers who do not use planners and of course, there are some that do (Everyone should have a planner).

Also, you are fortunate to have a camera like that.

Do enjoy the rest of your day!

  4. I’m not a photographer for my blog, but I do intend to start. Some nice little props can be collected from cheapy places like Bargain books and even charity shops, so I’ll have to step up my game!

  5. This is a great list, Lauren! My essentials are the same as yours πŸ™‚ I always love seeing your planner, it’s so neat and pretty, those stickers are so cute and colourful too #plannergoals. I also love that blogging means we have an excuse to buy more pretty notebooks to help us stay organised (yayy!). I agree, blog prop shopping is the best kind of shopping, it is so much fun to find new and creative things for photos. I love your postcard and paper collection, it is so bright, happy and colourful! πŸ˜€ Thanks for sharing your essentials, fab post as always! ❀ xxx

  6. Ahh I love all of these, seriously! I wish I had a better camera but my Samsung Galaxy S9 is good for now. I am in real need of props too! I bought fairy lights but I keep forgetting to use them so that’s just great hehe. You are so neat and organized with your planner girl!! πŸ˜‰

  7. These are some very important must haves for a blogger. I have the same habit of writing down my post in a note book and then typing from my laptop. I use a mobile that is especially for taking my blog photos and social media. As for props I have collected a lot of them through hehehe. I need to get organized though. Love post Lauren.

  8. I would love to have a proper camera but I can’t really justify the spend or the time needed to learn to use it properly. My Samsung Galaxy S6 is really good though (apart from the front facing camera which makes selfies look like you’re underwater :() And I agree about a blogging planner, I’d be lost without mine, and I also use it to record my stats so everything is in one place. Fab post, looking forward to your go-to apps and websites post now! Lisa xxx

  9. I totally agree about having a dedicated blogging notebook. I love carrying mine around wherever I go so that I can write down any ideas or roughly plan any blog posts. I also love to plan blog posts on google calendar, but I definitely agree that have a blogging calendar is super nice since it seriously keeps you on track. I’ve never heard of that brand, but I will definitely have to look into it because I love to bullet journal and that Say Nice Things notebook looks cool!

  10. All of these things explain why you are successful. You have found what works for you. I kind of fly by the seat of my pants and blog as ideas pop into my mind. I know this is not the best way to go, but it works for me. I write directly onto the computer and mostly use stock photos as I don’t have a very good camera and my subjects vary quite a bit.

    1. Exactly you have to do what works best for you. Stock photos are good too especially if you don’t have the camera. I like the way you write your posts and your pictures are always great!

  11. Love this! Our essentials are a bit different, I would say mine has to be Canva, Unsplash (for royalty free pictures) and my notes app. I love getting tips from fellow bloggers. Thanks for sharing!

  12. My first and foremost thing that I always have is a notebook. This may sound weird but I do not have a phone and, since I love making notes, having pen and paper on hand to write something down is essential. I usually transcribe to text later.

  13. Great list of essentials! I have similar things on my list as well! I like how you decorated your notebook! I think photo props are an essential (like yourself, any reason to shop for me is a green light! haha!) I bought a planner but realized I work better with just doodling everything in a single notebook. It’s proof that everyone works differently and has different preferences. I love that. Thanks for sharing your essentials doll! πŸ˜€

  14. I love that “I’d rather be blogging sticker” on your notebook. πŸ’—
Our lists are very similar, although I tend to use my phone more than my camera now. Especially when I’m out and about, and see something that could make a good featured image. I need to get some more blog photo props though!
