A bullet journal can be so versatile and you can record different information. The bullet journal process is where I was first introduced to habit trackers.

Habit trackers are exactly what they say, they are a way of tracking your habits. The simple way to measure whether you completed a habit. There are plenty of theories you can find online about how many days it takes to form or break a habit. There is a 21/90 rule, this is where you commit to a habit for 21 days straight. It has said after the three weeks it should have become a habit. You then continue the habit for a further 90 days.

Why track your habits or your goals?

Tracking your habits is a great way to feel more confident and more in control of your day to day tasks. When you track your habits on a daily basis gives you a sense of accomplishment and for me it motivates me to continue. Having this visual and the art of checking off a list helps me to feel productive.

What are the benefits of habit tracking?

  2. Motivations to full fill the tasks
  3. Acts as a reminder to complete the tasks
  4. Helps to build a routine and structure
  5. It holds you accountable
  6. You learn more about yourself

What layouts can I use for habit trackers?

There are so many different layouts you can use to track your habits. I have used a few different layouts over the years I have been bullet journaling. Over the next few months I am going to trial different layouts, to see if I favour a particular one.

1. Horizontal Table

I liked this layout because you can fill the boxes in with colourful designs, or with patterns and it is very aesthetically pleasing.

2. Individual calendars and trackers

I saw this layout from Amanda RachLee, I have been using this form of tracking for a few months. It can be a bit more time consuming but does have a very clean look to it.

Other examples of layouts

I have found habit trackers helpful in full filling tasks. I want to trial new layouts and see if I find a system that works for me.

  1. Keeping a habit tracker is so helpful! I like to create the horizontal table ones as I’ve always done it that way and it works for me. If it works then I’m not going to change it.. ♡ Great post!


  2. I’m starting to fall in love with bullet journaling more and more. The more posts like this I see, the more I want to take it up. Developing healthier habits is certainly something I’m working on this but why not make it fun and colourful, right? Thanks so much for your post.

  4. While I don’t have a habit tracker in my bullet journal, I realized I technically do track some habits! I have this app on my phone to keep track of it. The only thing I have tracked in my bullet journal is all the days I’ve exercised throughout the year. I have one spread that is divided by month and by day! It’s something that excites me to put a lil dot next to the day, while the same cannot be true about other things I keep track of on my phone! Great post xxx

  5. My habit tracker is a bit different in the fact that it is for daily/weekly house chores. I found that if I assign a different chore for a different day, then I am only spending 30 minutes(usually less) everyday doing housework/chores and the rest of the day is mine to do as I please. I use little check off boxes for each day and how many weeks in the month.

  7. I love habit trackers! It keeps you accountable and is a great motivating factor, especially when you get the satisfaction of looking at a completed chart. I love the different designs you have shared! Big plus that you made them yourself. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Oh yes I find habit trackers most useful. Currently I use the layout similar to pic #3 to track my periods, the small tweaks on my website and my morning runs. I wish I could make them look prettier but I don’t have the skill.

  9. I love a habit tracker! There’s something so satisfying about ticking off each day and seeing your progress! These are some great layouts, the calendar ones especially are my favourites but the only thing that puts me off is how time consuming they’d be! 😂 Thanks for sharing x

  10. I used a habit tracker for a while, but I just found I would always forget – making the tracker itself a habit I struggled to keep up with! Love the idea of them, might try one again for February with this inspiration 🙂

  11. I think it is a great idea to track habits and goals, for all the reasons you listed above. It definitely brings a higher sense of self awareness and can be motivating. Habits are difficult to break but I can see how keeping track of your progress would assist in staying accountable. Less likely to stray. I love the different layouts you have shared!
