Happy Valentines Day! When people say show yourself some love and care for yourself. I think society has programmed it in that a good bubble bath or a face mask will suffice. Which of course is okay if you want to do that, but self care and love is about so much more than pampering.
I think self love is so important, I mean how do you expect others to love you, if you do not love yourself? I have made the decision this year to start practising acceptance and personal growth.
I have 9 different ways you can show yourself love and these are acts you should start practising right away.
#1 Do not beat yourself up when you fail
Everyone fails at something at some point in their life, no one is born amazing at something. Failing allows you to learn and develop. The most successful people, never got everything right first time. I have been guilty of putting myself down if I fail. But I am learning to embrace these and learn from them.
#2 Give yourself a break
Life can be incredibly busy and so it is important to remember to take a break. Whether that is having a day off or neglecting the hoovering for an afternoon to give yourself a rest.
#3 Say NO
When you are asked by friends, coworkers or for work commitments to go to an event or work on something, so many people have an overwhelming sense to say yes. How many times have said yes when you really wanted to say no? I know I have done this a lot. This year I am going to do what I want but of course being polite and turning down the invitation.
#4 Do more of the things you love
When you are participating in activities you love, it makes you happy and releases endorphins. It can help with aspects of mental health. Life is for living and you should enjoy things you love.
#5 Write down your goals and dreams without self judgement
Have you ever thought about a job you would love to do or a dream holiday and then thought I could never do that, or I am not good enough to do that job? Having them written down, putting positivity into the universe. You need to appreciate your good qualities in being able to achieve your goals. You have the ability to achieve your goals.
#6 Spend more time outside or in nature
Being outside or in nature helps to ground you and boosts moods. Walks for example are great for gentle exercise. Looking after your body is so important and being outside and spending time in nature is a great way to care for yourself. I always feel so much relaxed after being at the beach or out for a walk.
#7 Eating healthy
This does NOT mean diet! Looking after your body from the inside out is one key aspect of self love. Respecting what you are putting into your body, you only get one. It means having a healthy balance. I am starting to become more aware of what foods I am eating. This aspect of self love is high on my priorities list.
#8 Doing what is best for you and not others
It is your life and your decisions to make, unfortunately some people will always make judgements. I am learning and practising to care less what other people think and do what I think is best for me. You have to look after yourself, right?
#9 Cut the negativity from your life
Whether that be a person or a situation, if possible cut that from your life. Negativity breeds negativity. It can be a difficult decision to make, however can help improve your mental health too. I started doing this last year, life is too short, I only want to surround myself with positive and supportive people. When you surround yourself with people who boost your confidence and motivate you to be better.
