When I first thought about starting a blog it was 2016, I had toyed with the idea so much, however it took me nearly a year to actually have the confidence to start and sharing my first blog post. Since I have started my blogging journey I have watched the blogging industry become more attractive to people and brands.
I have been blogging for nearly 3 years and in that time so many things have changed in the industry as well as my writing style, the posts I share and my confidence with working on brand content. It is a great journey to learn and of self discovery. I have seen people on social media express their interest in starting a blog and honestly all I say to those people is DO IT! I wasted nearly a year of time when really all I should have done was started writing.
I am sharing 5 of the top reasons why I would say starting a blog is a great idea. If you are reading this and thinking about starting a blog, read about what 5 things you can gain and how it can positively impact your life.
1. The opportunity to be creative
Starting a blog can give you a creative outlet and a space to channel that energy. You can write, take photographs for your blog and design your blog graphics. A space that you can create as your own. Being creative is great for your mental health it keeps your mind busy and you can put effort into something and seeing the end result makes you feel accomplished.
I have always loved being creative with colouring, writing and crafting, blogging gives me that creative outlet to allow me to pursue those passions.
2. You can help others with your writing
The internet is now this huge thing that allows people who may be suffering with certain situations or experiences that now do not have to feel so alone. Some bloggers choose a certain niche that it could be advocating for mental health, nutrition, exercise, traveling tips and more. There is people out there who are in need of this information, support or to feel less alone with how they are feeling. It is a great feeling knowing you are putting helpful content into your corner of the internet. It is great to know that people not only enjoy your writing but it impacts positively on their lives. I have had messages from readers who have said my posts have helped them and it is very gratifying. Has someone reached out to you after you shared a post?

3. You have the opportunity to work with brands you love
Now that businesses are utilising the influencer and digital marketing industry a lot more, there are opportunities for you to work with brands and building great relationships with PR contacts. The benefits of working with brands means you can progress your blog into a potential business and you learn more about business contracts.
I have been fortunate enough to work with some great brands, it has helped me build my confidence and learned a lot about PR and business. Some of my favourite brands to work with were Archer & Olive, BusyB and Schwartz.
4. You make new friends online
The blogging community is a big one, there are so many bloggers who are kind and supportive. One of the greatest things about blogging is the opportunity to network with other like-minded people. You can learn from others and seeing other peoples’ success can motivate you to achieve more. I have made some great friends through blogging and appreciate their support.
5. You can learn new skills
When setting up a blog you will firstly learn about the platform you use to host your blog and different tools they offer to make your blog site the most effective. As you continue your blogging journey you will learn about SEO, analytics and social media marketing. If you then have the opportunity to work with brands you will learn about pitching, contracts and invoices. There is always so much to learn and I am continuing to learn. The benefit is these skills can be applied to your CV when you are looking for work.

Blogging and the influencer industry is growing as a profession and as a hobby and so all the more reason if you are thinking about starting a blog, you should!
Are you wanting to start a blog? I’d love to hear in the comments.
Totally agree with all your points
Thank you!
These are all great points! Blogging is definitely a hobby that I love because I can write about things that inspire me or that I love, or write about topics that I feel need to be talked about more. But I have also learnt a lot through blogging too, and made some lovely friends in the community! great post xxxx
That’s a great reason to blog! Thank you for reading and sharing xxxx
Blogging is one of my passion which I enjoy a lot. Blogging taught me a lot and of course it gives me a chance to connect with fellow bloggers . The creativity in me came out by blogging.
It’s a part of ME time where I can forget everything and concentrate on my thoughts.
So I really love blogging and all you made are vital points.
Thank you for reading and sharing your reasons for loving blogging!
You are welcome
I’ve been blogging for eight months now on WordPress self hosted and there’s definitely a big learning curve here. I thought I was just going to write content and publish and that was going to be the end of that but there’s so much more. I’m learning something new every day and it feels so rewarding. Not to mention all the new friends I gained.
It does take me away from my work but it’s a hobby I dearly cherish. I could relate to all your reasons. xx
That’s great! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Xx
Agree with all of these, I love being able to have a productive hobby xo

Love the blogging community, I have connected with some amazing people from all over the world. I have set up a series where I share blogs I have discovered, such a fun way to share the love of blogging.
Thank you for reading and commenting. Can you link your blog so I can have a read
Sure thing
While I don’t have many followers I enjoy the back and forth on their views as well as my own. It has helped my writing I believe and it has let me talk about my opinions on important(to me) subjects. I do not hope to make money because my writing and posts don’t really have a theme.
That’s fair enough, it’s great you are happy with just writing and that’s good. Not everyone wants it to be a career x
I blog because I love my blogging family.
That’s a great reason!
I love the skills one! I have learnt so so many skills from blogging that I now use in my job every day x
That’s great, thank you for reading and sharing x
Is it weird to say I don’t have the words to explain why I blog exactly and how I like it? probably because I haven’t done it for that long yet and I’m still trying to really find my footing but I definitely don’t hate it. I can’t wait to know more all all that entails and learn new skills and be more comforatble with everything for sure. Thanks for sharing!
That’s great! Thank you for reading and commenting!
There’s so much to learn by blogging, I love that, as well as being able to be creative, write about places I love and meet like-minded people.
They are great reasons to blog! Thank you for reading and commenting!
Great post, and I totally agree with everything you mentioned. I also love to inspire and help people by sharing my own fumbles and experiences. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve been blogging for just over 2 years now and I still LOVE IT, I’ve spoke to so many new people because of it and made one of my current best friends because of it x
That’s great! How sweet that’s how you met one of your best friends. Can you link your blog so I can read x

I really enjoy reading your blog! So I am glad you are blogging 😊x
I’ve not got into point 3 yet. But the others are absolutely why I do it. I’ve not been going long, but to have a couple of people already saying, what I’ve wrote has helped them feels so rewarding.
Thank you for reading and sharing! Can you link your blog
I agree with you 🙂
While there is so much to blogging, which I don’t think any of us realised when we first started out, there’s also so much to love about it! The blogging community is one of the nicest I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of, and I’m grateful for it for introducing me to my blogger friends like you! It’s a great way to relax for me personally. Knowing people actually take the time to read my work is a great feeling!
Great post Lauren xx
It is a great feeling isn’t it. It is a really lovely supportive community. Thank you for reading and commenting Steff xxx
Agreed. Blogging is definitely my hobby (but seems like a part time job right now). I’m absolutely loving how creative and motivated I feel to write and watching my skills develop as I network with other bloggers too.

I can totally relate to all these points. I love blogging because I have always loved to write too so it just kind of goes hand and hand together! I would ultimately love to be able to make some money of it too in the future, but I am still enjoying it right now even though it is super profitable yet!

That’s great you love it! I hope you manage to make it into a career x
Ooh, I am inspired to write a piece on why I love blogging!
I cannot agree more that having an outlet for creativity gives me a sense of freedom and value; I love to know that my writing gives others food for thought or just helps them smile once in the day.
Having the opportunity to learn and share your wisdom with others is, I think, one of the best reasons to write.
Yes write a piece and share it on your blog! That’s a great reason to blog! X
My favourite part of blogging is that it gives me a creative outlet and motivation to try new things. It also gives me the opportunity to meet new people and I love finding new blogs to read 💛

I could definitely relate to these, especially the first two reasons of being creative and being able to help others. Love the perspective of this post 💖
Thank you for reading and commenting. Can you please link your blog so I can read x
I agree with all of these reasons, Lauren. Having a creative outlet was the reason I started my blog but the online community, fabulous opportunities, and constant learning are definitely why I keep blogging – I’d be lost without it! xx
I’m almost a Bournemouth girl too – Christchurch. My favourite parts of blogging are the creativity, chiefly the writing. I’ve got paid content writing work via blogging.

Oh my dad used to live there. So close! You always lived here? That’s great reasons to love blogging x
Over the years of blogging I’ve had such a love hate relationship with blogging and other bloggers but for the most part it has been great! I really love learning new skills too x
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Can you link your blog so I can read x
This is such a relatable post to me and has come at such a good time too. I’ve been doubting why I keep this up but then I stop doing it for a while and it leaves me so bored and stuck in my own head. I love that it gives me an outlet, it’s made me make friends and I’ve learnt about a community I never knew about before. I love it!
Thanks for sharing this and hopefully inspiring others in a rut!

Definitely! Thank you for sharing!!
This is one of the tough questions when people who don’t blog ask about my blogging! They ask what I write about, why I blog, etc. There are so many reasons, but I guess the base of it comes down to me loving it! I love having an outlet to write what I want to write about, and I’ve met so many lovely people through blogging that I wouldn’t have if i never started blogging. Great post! Super relatable xxx

“Learning new skill” Is my favorite… The Tallented personalities all over the world get connected to ourselves just because of this blogging.. 😄
As a bit of a newbie to blogging, I can see why you have the love for it. I have already become addicted after only 6 weeks!
That’s great! ☺️
I totally relate to all your points Lauren. I started blogging to get myself busy and do something. Just like you I am also very interested in different art work. But some people don’t appreciate and say little things that really hurt. I blog only to share my love for everything related to beauty. It is in me from my childhood. I will continue doing as long as I can. I really love blogging, taking pictures, connecting with fellow bloggers. I have learned so many things in this process which I would never have dreamt about doing and using my time that I used to waste watching useless things. Speaking from my heart. Thanks for this lovely post. 🙂

Ah lala! It really is a hobby isn’t it? I love this post and feel committed to blogging now too, even though I’m really unsure I’m ever going to make anything out of it financially. I thought it would matter but I realise it sort of doesn’t? Thanks for sharing.
I agree with all of these! Blogging has been such a great creative outlet for me, and I love interacting with other bloggers online! Great post x
