Bullet journaling is a great organising system that can be designed individually to meet your needs. I have been using this system for around 3 years. If you are thinking about bullet journaling but still apprehensive I have shared things you should know before you start a bullet journal, hopefully that post can help you make a decision.
To start a bullet journal you do not need a huge range of resources. Today, I am sharing 5 bullet journal essentials that will help you create an effective bullet journal.
1. A good journal
You can use a number of different brands and journals. You can used lined, squared, plain or dotted pages. It is a personal preference. I have shared bullet journals from BusyB and a review of an Archer & Olive bullet journal, they are both great products with different features. You do NOT need to buy the most expensive journal. If you are planning to use watercolours and paints in your bullet journals, I recommend you checking the GSM as if the pages are too thin you will have a lot of bleeding and ghosting. I am currently using the Archer & Olive journal.
2. A decent fine-liner pen
Fine-liner pens are the best type of pens to draw layouts and write in your bullet journal. They allow you to be precise with drawing your spreads and designing your lettering. There are so many different brands out there they again range in price. I currently use the Pigma Micron 0.5mm and the PN, I like these because they are waterproof and fade proof.
3. A ruler
Whether you want to use creative spreads or simple functional spreads, a ruler is essential to make the lines look neat. It is also helpful when counting spaces for habit trackers and weekly spreads. Especially if you are anything like me and need your spreads to look neat. I also use a ruler for highlighting certain rows in my spreads, I love how clean it looks.
4. Washi tape
This may not be an essential for everyone but if you are wanting to make your spreads look more creative but are not arty, washi tape is a great cheat way to add colour and texture to your pages. Washi tape is so versatile, I have shared ways you can use your washi tape if you are needing some inspiration.
5. Colouring pencils/pens
Using coloured pencils or pens is another great way to make your spreads more creative without much effort. Colour coding with your pens is a great way to keep your schedule organised. Highlighters and mild-liners are a great way to add colour and highlight your titles, headings or important things you need to remember.
These are 5 inexpensive essentials to start your bullet journal journey. I have also written a post comparing two bullet journals and the cheaper alternative actually came out on top. If you want to know the cheaper bullet journal alternative you can check it out here.
