For the first 2 years of my blogging journey when pitching to brands or working with brands I never used a media kit. Although I had successful collaborations with these brands, I knew it was time to create a media kit.
Do you want to earn money from your blog? If the answer is yes you will want to at some point work on sponsored content having a media kit is going to show your worth to those brands. You could be asked for a media kit by brands and you do not want to seem unprofessional and say you do not have one, so having one handy will be so helpful.
What is a media kit?
A media kit is like a CV for bloggers and influencers. It will include all the information that brands will want to be aware of to see if you are suitable for a collaboration. Like a job CV your media kit gives you the opportunity to showcase your talents and to sell yourself. It is the perfect and easiest way to send all information to a brand or PR contact.
What should you include in your media kit?
There are certain elements that your media kit should have to be the most effective when pitching to potential brands. The great thing about media kits are they are individual and can be designed the way you like them. The elements I have used are the main focuses brands will ask for when they are discussing a collaboration.
A picture of you and a little paragraph about you
By including a picture of yourself allows brand and PR contacts to put a face to the name of your blog. Writing a little bit about yourself can make your media kit far more personable. You want the contacts to see the real person behind the business.

A little paragraph on your blog with your blog logo
Writing about the topics you cover and what you aim to achieve with your blog, can help brands decide whether you are a suitable fit for their audience as well as your own. If you can share how different your blog is brands are going to take notice of this.
Your social media handles
Putting your handles for social media on your media kit will mean brand and PR contacts can research your content. This can help the brand see what content you have created previously, how well content performs and your levels of engagement. By seeing all these elements that will help them decide if they want to work with you and your blog.
Your social media following and blog statistics
In your media kit it is important that you include statistics for your blog, writing your blog views, audience demographic and your DA score. Including your audience demographic can help brands to know whether your blog is the perfect fit to showcase their product or services. Sharing your social media following allows contacts to see the size of your audience and the reach your content has.
Previous collaborations
If you have worked with brands previously it is a great idea to include a few of these on your media kit. You should include the brands that are similar to the brand you are pitching to. If the content was well received by your audience it will pique a brand’s interest. If you have any positive testimonials from brands you have worked with previously including one or two can help to show future brands you produce worthy content and conduct yourself professionally.
Services you offer
Writing in your media kit with what services you offer can show brand and PR contacts know whether or not you offer what they are looking for. It can save a lot of emailing back and forth, when brands can see if you offer certain services.
Photography
Including a variety of photographs that you have taken, whether they are product photographs or personal photographs. Again, it is a way to showcase what content you can create. It can also make your media kit more appealing to brands and stop the media kit being continuous text.
Contact information and prices for your services
Sharing your contact information means it is helpful to brands and PR contacts to reach you at other times for future collaborations. Having your prices is optional, I personally do not include my prices, but I know other creators do. If you do include them it can be informative for brands as they can see if they have a budget to work with you and saves a lot of time.
How to create your successful media kit?
I chose to make mine in Canva. I have definitely come along with designing graphics for my blog but there is still so much to learn and develop. Canna is a great app that has lots of templates for you to customise to make a killer media kit. The best part is you can use it for free, however there is the option to pay for a subscription to have access to more templates. Just search media kit and scroll to find the template you love. Then you have the opportunity to create and customise a media kit you love. This app is a great free resource, so get creating!
Creating and utilising a media kit is a great resource to use when you are pitching and working with brands. Use your media kit show off your content and the benefits of working with you. This is the perfect time to sell yourself. A media kit is an adaptable piece which you can edit and tailor to the brand you are pitching.

Canva is an amazing app; I love to use it to design pins and visual poetry, and have even played around with a couple media kit ideas. Your one-page kit speaks to me; it is simple and gets all the information across.
