Blogging is a fantastic, creative outlet that can offer you so many features, opportunities for you to learn and the chance to build a brand and business. I have been blogging for nearly 4 years now and I have seen the blogging community change and the opportunities grow.
I love blogging as it has boosted my confidence and given me so many amazing opportunities. However, like anything in life, both blogging and content creation have some down sides and there are some things that happen in the blogging community which are really frustrating for other bloggers.
This post is by no means aimed at anyone on particular; it is simply what I have unfortunately witnessed online. I am sharing 6 things that I have noticed, which both myself and other bloggers really dislike about blogging and will leave you feeling really frustrated.
1. Using incorrect hashtags
Hashtags are a great tool to utilise when promoting your blog posts, but also help you find blogging opportunities especially Twitter which has hashtags such as: #bloggerswanted, #bloggersrequired, #bloggersneeded. When used correctly, these hashtags are useful in spotting sponsored opportunities. However, some bloggers are using these hashtags to promote their own content. This is incredibly frustrating when bloggers are searching these tags for blogging opportunities.
There are so many other hashtags and accounts that are dedicated to sharing bloggers content and these are far more beneficial when it comes to promoting your blog posts. Other hashtags that can help share your content are: #Bloggerstribe, #TheClqRT and #cosybloggersclub. These accounts are currently actively tweeting bloggers content to a huge audience.
2. Copying of content
As a blogger, you know how much time and effort goes into researching, writing and sourcing the best images and taking the time to promote the post. Unfortunately, there are some ‘bloggers’ who will copy and paste and pass off content as their own. This is not only upsetting for the bloggers whose content it is, but can get that person into a lot of legal trouble.
If you have enjoyed a blogger’s post idea, or feel that you could share your experience, acknowledging that blogger can be the best way to share content on the same topic as long as it is written in your own words. If I have a great idea, or want to do some research, I am always a bit unsure about sharing on Twitter because I have seen at least one person share the same content as me at the same time. If you are guilty of this, you need to stop as it is really frustrating and disrespectful.
3. Sharing blogging tips with no blogging experience
There are so many bloggers who share their experience or tips to run a blog, which is really useful. However, I have noticed that bloggers, who only have a few months worth of experience, sharing tips about how to create a successful blog without having actually achieved this themselves. This does not make you credible.
This has also been the case for releasing ebooks based on blogging tips. When you are selling a product, you are putting your brand on the content, so it needs to be the best product. However, I have seen a lot of ebooks being released by people who have little or no blogging experience. If you want to learn and grow your blog, you must ensure that you are purchasing from reliable sources.
4. Not leaving genuine comments
No one has to comment on your blog posts; however, when someone takes the time to write a comment and it just says ‘Great post’, it can leave a blogger frustrated. If you are going to the time to comment, it can be helpful to the blogger to know why you have enjoyed the post.
It can also affect your DA and Spam score if you are leaving continuous comments that are less than 8 words. It can actually boost your DA by constantly commenting on other bloggers’ posts. If you choose to comment, make sure that you are leaving detailed, specific comments.
5. Incorrect or no disclosure
Disclosing your blog or social media content is not only a legal requirement, but it shows transparency and credibility to your audience.
When you are working with brands on sponsored content or a gifted campaign, it is important to disclose at the beginning of the post or social media post, making your audience aware. This will help you to be authentic with you readers and show professionalism for your brand and business.
6. Brands asking for work and no payment
When you start working with brands as a content creator, it can be so exciting and being able to turn your blogging hobby into a social media content creator career.
Creating content and blog posts for brands can take a lot of effort and planning. It is only right that you are paid for your work. If you are a hobby blogger and are happy to work for gifted products, there is nothing wrong with that at all. But if you want to make money from your blog, requesting payments and knowing your worth is important. Brands have a budget for social media and will sometimes try for content creation for free. However, stick to what you feel is right for you and your brand.
Can you relate to any of these pet peeves in the blogging community? I’d love to hear in the comments.

Oh my gosh, I so agree with all of this! The unfollow game, general comments and brands asking for a collaboration with no payment particularly annoy me! I remember on Instagram I posted a picture of a theatre and someone commented saying “love what you’re wearing” when there were no people in sight! Utterly bizarre!
Oh my goodness you’ve had that with no pictures of people, that’s so strange! Thank you for reading and commenting!! Xx
I agree with so many of these! I hate the unfollow game you always get so far with followers but now it will fall down again in no time 🙁
It’s so crazy the follow and unfollow, it makes no sense haha x
Oh my god! I had the same, but they never said about me buying it until they sent me a link for 10% off, I was like sorry no. You have to know your own worth and your own time! They would pay so much online advertising a blogger is definitely a more affordable way, so it is so rude to request free work. Yes guilt tripping is not fair at all! I have given up on insta I am just focusing on making my feed as pretty as I can haha xx
Nice post.
I’m kidding! I’m guilty of the tagging #bloggers etc incorrectly! I know now, I was honestly just following others, thinking this was the right thing to do. The follow/unfollow is the reason my Instagram isn’t as important as other mediums. I hate it because I love Instagram, but if it’s just going to be a game, why bother playing hard?

Yeah it was no way a dig, I didn’t know that but if you see my posts on twitter I have tagged the retweet accounts, that will share your content for you 😊. Yeah it’s so frustrating isn’t it! Thank you for reading and commenting xx
The follow unfollow still makes me feel like my work is being wasted! I find twitter the best for genuine interaction and I’m sure we all hate Instagram!! But then some days I go on and link with some great people in my niche, but I still secretly hate it! I think I would agree with these all! But the work life balance really resonates with me as I cover craft, gardening and homecoming. So all articles take place around work and creating! I sometimes get to the end of a project and realise I don’t have step by step photos and want to scream!! But it is all a lot of fun around all of the hard work! Very glad to be doing my little bit. Thanks for the honest article !!
Oh gosh forgetting the photos is so frustrating isn’t it!! Instagram is the hardest, I am just focusing on making my feed look pretty and what if I find people that support me then great. Thank you for reading and commenting on my post xx
I feel the same about each and every item on your list so much that I can’t decide which one irritates me most. I’ve had my content stolen and I cannot stand the follow/unfollow. But, I love being able to have genuine connections with other bloggers and having a creative outlet, which makes it worth it.
I have commented twice on your Jamaica post and it says my comments are spam.. can you check your spam folder to approve them x
I don’t have a Jamaica post or anything in my spam folder.
It says Jamaica here I come? It’s the first post that comes up on your blog when I click your link
No your name is linked too My Trinkets of life website
You’ve had your content stolen, that is so disrespectful sorry that happened to you! Yes genuine conversation and support is so worth it x
100% agree with all your points! The follow/no follow game is so strong on Twitter and Instagram so I ignore the followers section completely lol
At least there’s still effort on commenting ‘nice post’ comment because I had people just slapping their blog link and I was like ??????
Yeah it’s so true, it’s so frustrating.. someone even commented on this blog post with a generic comment I was like what?!?! Haha. Thank you for reading and commenting! X
Writers block is no joke! I have had this happen to me quite a few times. It is a pain, but I have come out the other side with it. The following and unfollowing is such a blow. I am blogging and on social media to make connections and talk about books not collection numbers of people who don’t care about what I talk about etc. In some situations I can total understand nice post, while it isn’t specific it does make my feel good about my posts because someone enjoyed it.
Yeah it’s frustrating as you want to know what is good haha! Yes writers block is so frustrating!! Do you have tips for getting through writers block? As reading and scrolling through Pinterest is great! X
I like going to new places, that helps me. Sometimes a new bookstore, coffee shop, or park is all I need.
Urgh, AutoDMs! Why, just why?
We book bloggers have a lot of shared peeves with general bloggers, but we also have Authors Behaving Badly and some other… issues. Lol! <3
Yeah it’s so frustrating!! I love the authors behaving badly, that’s so good!! Auto DMs are so frustrating! Please can you link your blog so I can read it xx
It should be linked to my Gravatar, but here it is anyways: https://dorareads.co.uk/ 🙂 <3
I couldn’t agree more with your points! Especially #1 and #4!

I AM WITH YOU FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE!!!! Using the hashtags wrong is my biggest peeve, but the auto-DM thing is very frustrating. I haven’t seen many of these recently so hopefully they’re on the way out.
Naomi xo
I literally got one of these the other day I was like argh, just message me and talk to me haha! So glad I am not the only one, thank you for reading and commenting Naomi xx
Thank you for useful information!
Have a great new week!

If it so crazy, everyone pretty much has an unfollowers app anyway so they can spot them haha x
That is so lovely of you. Thank you for reaching out! Your latest post, the writing is so motivating!
Totally agree with most of these – particularly the balancing act (#3) and auto direct messages (#5) – ironically impersonal, aren’t they! I liked the mixture of personal and community analysis in your list 🙂
Yes definitely, I like to have genuine interaction with others and build friendships. It is so impersonal! Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts xx
Great list, I have definitely experienced some of these. The hardest one for me is balancing work, life and blogging.
It can be so hard can’t it. I (not to jinx it) have been on the ball lately, just hoping that continues x
Hahaha I HATE making it difficult to comment!! Why isn’t everyone ok wordpress (joking!) There has been many times I’ve wanted to leave comments, type it out and end up not leaving one because I tried 3 x and now I’m frustrated, which is too bad because we can all use a little blog love! Thanks for sharing!
Yeah I don’t want to register to a separate brand in order to comment 😂🤯. Thank you for reading and commenting your thoughts xx
Yes to these!! I hate when a brand emails you with a ‘collab’ and then all you’re getting is ‘exposure’. The spam on bloggers wanted is also a pain! x

Yeah exactly it’s crazy! Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts x
Hello! I can seriously relate to this post of yours, and permit me to share my thoughts on three points in particular:
1: This is undoubtedly prevalent on Instagram, especially with the “influencers.” Some friends of mine have basically resorted to calling these types out; I recently had a case in which UK thots were the perpetrators of this deplorable practice.
4 and 5: Also prevalent on Instagram, and there’s one blogger here who does that practice. However, the Instagram general comments issue (caused by bots) doesn’t happen if your post doesn’t have hashtags. Just report ’em botter accounts!
Instagram is the worst, it’s crazy!! I have given up with that and just focusing on making my feed look pretty!! Thank you for relating and sharing your thoughts xx
Everything on this list was so spot on! Almost hilarious how spot on it was! Except for the brands thing- in all my years I’ve blogging I’ve always been too little for brands to want to contact me, haha. But I’ve gotten writers block SO. MANY. TIMES! Hence the years of blogging, lol. I’m so with you on the “nice post!” comments. Um, did you even read it? And don’t get me started on spam. UGH.
xoxo Emily

I know it’s so frustrating isn’t it! Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts on my list. It’s nice I am not the only one who experience these haha xx
This is such a good idea for a blog and almost a good starting point for new bloggers, I completely agree about the follow/ unfollow game, it’s actually quite stressful when you see that your followers has gone down and you think do they not like my stuff am I doing something wrong?
Besides anything this is a great post 🙂
Exactly, it’s so crazy! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on my post xx
Can you send me the link to your blog x

Great list! Incorrectly using the hashtags grinds my gears on a daily basis! Genuine engagement is the best thing isn’t it?
Blogging and balancing work/family/life is the most annoying part for me! I’m a teacher, so I plan to put in a lot of blog time over the summer. I’ve had a few weird auto DM’s on insta too.
Oh wow, really busy for you then. Yes that’s definitely a good time to get content in. Thank you for reading and commenting xx
Yes girl!! I totally agree with this list! Blogging does come with it’s fair share of annoyances! The unfollow game on Insta is crazy and I don’t understand why people do it. Like you say, unfollower apps are a good way to see who does this so in the end it is just a big waste of time. I haven’t looked at the Twitter blogging hashtags in a while but I remember they were often misused. Yep and writers block is so frustrating but agree that doing something different and creative often sparks new inspiration 🙂 Fab post and very relatable, thanks for sharing Lauren! <3 xxxx

Thank you for reading Bexa! It’s nice to know other bloggers can relate to the negatives I come across. ❤️xxxx
Oh I can definitely relate!! I’m always really dubious about saying I’ll return all comments – while I will try my hardest, if someone has left me just a “great post” comment and their blog is about something that I don’t have any interest in, I feel like it’s just a comments game rather than anyone really interacting. I agree completely about the work/blog/life balance – it’s so hard to maintain! Really enjoyed reading this!
I write return all comments and even if it takes a couple of hours or a day (because I am trying to balance everything) but I always return them. Those comments are annoying aren’t they! Thank you for sharing your thoughts xx
So true what you said about comments. I won’t leave a comment if I don’t have something to say in the comment, and when readers leave generic comments on my posts, it’s hard to come up with anything besides a generic response.
As for brands asking for collaboration with no payment, I haven’t come across this one yet, but now I know to look out for it and to steer clear or negotiate. As a new blogger, I always jump the gun to collaborate with people, especially companies, but this reminds me that you can just say no and hold out for a better offer.
Just know your worth and time, if you like the product then that’s different. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this! Xx
Omg the follow/unfollow thing kills me! It’s so hard to build a community when there are so many of those out there. Which hashtags have you experienced the best support from to promote a new post?
I can relate to you about the follow/unfollow game. Why bother wasting time? We’re here to build a community, not just focus on ourselves. OOOOMMMMMMGGGGG I can relate to you about those comments!!!! I always try to make an effort to read people’s posts and it sucks when people don’t do the same for you. I’m not asking to write a dissertation for a comment but at least something…. more useful than “cool post”. Oh man, I can relate to brands not wanting to pay people for collabs. Time is money! Thanks for sharing these blogging pet peeves!
Nancy ♥
Exactly, it’s nice to know what was good, or positive criticism to know how to improve. It’s so frustrating! Thank you for reading and commenting your thoughts on the list! Xx
Oh my god I actually have my own blogging pet peeves post scheduled for the beginning of June!!! I have a few of the same pet peeves as you. General comments drive me up the wall!
Jenny

No way really! I look forward to reading yours and hearing what annoys you in the blogging community! Yes right, if you don’t want to read it, don’t bother even clicking and commenting xx
I love this blog post sweetheart, I can relate to basically everything you said and I adore that you have spoken out about these topics. I’m sending you all of my love! 🌸💜
With love, Alisha Valerie x | http://www.alishavalerie.com
Aww thank you! It’s nice to know other bloggers can relate xx
These are actually all of my pet peeves too! The follow unfollow has got to be the worst and it’s just so annoying! Also the balancing is pretty hard too. I also hate when someone has clearly not read the post but comment silly things! X
It is so frustrating isn’t it! Yes something that doesn’t even appear in the post ha ha x
It’s good that others can relate and it’s not just me haha! Can you send me the link to your blog xx
Aww, welcome to the community, for the most part it’s amazing but these are a few things that irritate me. Yes instagram is the worst for it 🙁 I am just focusing on making me feed look pretty instead haha! Can you send me the link to your blog so I can read 😊xxx
They are aren’t they, if you are going to read and comment genuinely, there is no point haha xx
Instagram is the worst for it 🤯 drives me mad haha! That’s fair enough. Thank you for reading and commenting! Welcome to the blogging community xx
I can’t stand the follow/unfollow game. I also can’t stand when you work so hard on your pins and they end up getting stolen on Pinterest.
