Bedrooms are perhaps one of the most private spaces in any home. As such, they should serve as place for you to relax, unwind and recharge after a long day at work or school.
Many people find their bedrooms to be anything but relaxing and rejuvenating spaces. Instead, they feel like cramped storage spaces that make it impossible to find anything when it’s time to get ready for the day. We have some helpful tips on getting started if you’re struggling with how to style your perfect bedroom to serve its intended purpose. Check out these 5 ideas that will help you transform your space into exactly what you need it to be:
Pay attention to how you use your bedroom for optimal placement
One of the most important things to consider when styling your perfect bedroom is where you’ll be using this room. If you’re sharing a bedroom with a partner, it’s essential to remember how each person uses their side of the room. If you work from home, you’ll likely spend a lot of time in your bedroom. In this case, you might choose a space accommodating a desk or laptop table. If you have a baby in your bedroom, making space for nursery furniture is a must.
Look at how you move around your bedroom, pay attention to the flow of your furniture and style it to accommodate your usage and the room’s shape for optimal placement.
Create a cosy corner to relax
Your bedroom is the perfect place to create a cosy corner where you can relax after a long day. Creating a spot where you can unwind is even more critical if you have young children who are in and out of your bedroom or if you have a bedroom that doubles as a home office. If you have the space, you may want to consider opting for a full-size sofa to create an extra relaxation space. If you don’t have the extra space, consider investing in a mini sofa that can be tucked away when not in use. You can also try adding a bean bag or two to your corner for a more casual look. You may also want to add a small bookshelf or magazine rack to store your favourite reads and magazines along with some artwork, lighting and cushions for increased comfort.

Stick to one colour palette
The colour palette you choose to paint your bedroom walls will affect how you feel in your room. Opting for a more relaxed colour palette may help you unwind, while a more vibrant palette may be better suited to a teenager’s room. When choosing a colour palette for your perfect bedroom, remember that this will be different for everyone, and you can play around with other shades to create your ideal style. Mix brighter shades as an accent wall with more muted colours to even the balance, or leave your bold colours to your accessories and bedding for that accent pop!
Invest in high-quality bedding
Your bedding is perhaps your most important purchase for your bedroom. It’s the one item that will be in constant use, making it the perfect place to invest in high-quality bedding. When shopping for bedding, keep in mind the look you want to achieve in your bedroom. You’ll want to choose bedding that compliments the overall look and feel you want to accomplish in your room.
If you are aiming for that luxurious hotel vibe, then choosing a high thread count will give you the soft, comfortable feel you are aiming for and the better the quality, the longer the bedding will last.
Add lighting and mirrors to increase light
Keep light fixtures near the centre of the ceiling and avoid placing light fixtures directly above your bed. You may also want to add a few mirrors to increase your space’s light. A large mirror directly opposite your window will help reflect light into the room and make it feel lighter and brighter. You may also want to consider adding a small mirror to the top of your nightstand or add mirrored wardrobes to maximise the functionality and reduce how many accessories you introduce to your room for a more minimalist feel.
Conclusion
Styling your bedroom is personal and will mean different things to different people. For example, some people will love the idea of waking up in a vibrant room that energises them from the moment they open their eyes; others will prefer a calmer, more relaxing vibe to encourage sleep and help them unwind. However you choose to design your room, following these tips can help you to make the most of the space.
Thank you for this. Desperate to revamp our bedroom. Really need a space for a desk – currently continually moving around. Feel like a gypsy in my own home!
Oh bless you. I hope you manage to finish the decorating. If you don’t have much space for a desk check out the fold up desks or the ones that are skinny that are part of a bookshelf. X
Our bedroom isn’t that big but where our bed is slotted in, it’s very cosy. We were watching this show last night that made me realise just how I should be styling our bed to make it even more cosy, so I’m going to work on that.
Ooo that’s exciting!!
This is perfect because I’m currently decluttering ours and I’d love to do more to decorate. Thanks for the tips.

I have good lighting in my room too. I am very lucky. X
I love that you have suggestions for styling a bedroom! I will have to keep this in mind when we move (soon hopefully). I know that I love a room with windows and a lot of natural light (lower bill and I love the room being bright). My biggest take away from this though would be creating a cozy corner, top of my list!
That’s awesome! Good luck with your move when it comes around. Can you link your blog? X
I love this. I’m all about bedding, mirrors and lighting in bedrooms. Stunning bedding can transform a bedroom completely. Thanks for sharing.

My goodness, would I love a cozy nook in my bedroom!! If I parted ways with my armoire I would have SO much room but then I’d have to find another way to keep the contents inside of it.
That photo you selected is fantastic!

I recently started styling my bedroom and first thing I did was change the paint colour. I love how calm it is now, you’re right – colour palette will affect how you feel in your room. Still working on the cosy corner and lighting.
I changed mine to a lighter colour and it does completely change the look and feel of the room. Thank you for reading and commenting.
Thank you for this interior tips! A cozy bedroom is important.
Really helpful tips, I definitely need to invest in some more mirrors. Our room feels more claustrophobic than cosy at the mo so will need to change a few things up.
I love this post! My bedroom isn’t big and I also use it for work. I dream of one day having a more spacious bedroom and my own home office as well. I love your suggestions for styling a bedroom here and I agree with sticking to one color palette. Thanks so much for sharing x
I also use my room as my office with a desk etc. I can’t wait to buy my own property and have an office. Thank you for reading and commenting.
