If you are a fellow stationery lover or a stationery addict, then I am sure that you are both aware of and a lover of washi tapes. Washi tapes, if you don’t know, are a decorative, multi-purpose masking tape that comes in an array of colours, patterns and designs, which is used to decorate your journal pages.
Washi tapes can come in a range of sizes and designs. I have been collecting lots of different ones for my journal and my bullet journal. These tapes can be great for bullet journaling supplies for beginners as they offer colour and art to your pages.
I often get asked on social media and my blog about what you can use washi tape for, so I thought that I would share a list of 25 ways you can use them. See how you can start using them:
1. Create a washi tape journal swatch
If you are unsure what this means, then a swatch is where you have a small strip of each tape to make a catalogue of all your tapes. This is not only a great way to fill an empty bullet journal page, but it also allows you to refer back to when you are creating journal or bullet journal pages.
2. To decorate your planner
If, like me, you enjoy decorating your planner, washi tape makes it super easy to add colour and design when you want. You can also use washi tape in your planner spreads to indicate a length of time.
3. Wrap presents
The tapes make a great substitute for Sellotape. It can make a gift extra colourful.
4. Cover up mistakes in your notebooks or bullet journal
It is so frustrating when you have created a beautiful spread and then you manage o make a mistake! However, you can use washi tape to cover them up as well as smudges and anything else you want to hide!
5. Cut to create stickers
When journaling, planning or scrapbooking, using stickers can be a good way to decorate the pages as well as serve a functional purpose. You can cut and shape your washi tape to create unique stickers.
6. Decorate your handmade cards and envelopes
Making cards for your loved ones is such a great way to show love and that you have made a real effort. You can use your washi tapes to crate beautiful and thoughtful cards.
7. Wrap your current pen
If, like me, you have a lot of pens especially f they are the same type, popping a bit of washi tape around the top or around the pen will help you to use your current one. I don’t like having too many pens on the go at once. This helps to preserve the pen’s longevity.
8. Make titles for you bullet journal spreads
If you aren’t confident in creating titles for your bullet journal spreads, the use of washi tapes can help to create fun titles without artistic talent. If you want to add more colour, this is a great tool to use.
9. Decorate your handmade bookmarks
If you are a bookworm, creating you own bookmarks can be a great idea, or making one as a gift for someone else. Washi tape can be a great crafting supply to decorate them and make them unique.
10. Cover the whole inside page of your notebook or journal
Inside pages of notebooks and journals can be either plain or it could be a design you like. You can use washi tape to cover the inside of your journal. This can be a fun way to make your notebook or journal be more personal.
11. Decorate your notebook pages
If you like to have colourful pages in your notebook or a study notebook, it can hep you with your organisation of the information or make it a fun place to be creative.
12. Use as labels
If you like to organise your space with boxes or drawers, you can cut a label sized piece of washi tape and write on it. It can make your organised space colourful too!
13. Break down your chores/housework list
I like to make a housework schedule as it helps me to stay on top of all the tasks that need to be done. To break down the different rooms and tasks, you can use our washi tape.
14. Create a mood tracker in your bullet journal
Mood trackers are a great habit to get in to especially if you have health conditions as it helps you to track your mood and then analyse this against your physical symptoms. This will enable you and healthcare professionals to identify patterns.
15. For colour coding
In your planner, you can use washi tapes to colour code different tasks or events.
16. To stick pictures and memories
When you are scrapbooking, instead of using a glue stick, you can cut strips of washi tape and pin them. It can be a mess-free option!
17. Make your own bunting
Bunting can make any occasion look festive. With washi tape, you can create your very own personalised version!
18. Decorate gift boxes
When you are gifting a piece of jewellery or small gift, you can decorate the pain boxes with washi tapes that have a pretty design.
19. Use as sticky labels
Sticky labels can be helpful when making notes in your notebooks; you can use for colour coding in your notebook as well.
20. Sticky notes
These tapes can be used in your planner or on a to-do list to make notes about important information or act as reminders.
21. Decorate your scrapbook
Washi tapes are some of the best scrapbooking supplies. They can bring different textures and colours to your pages.
22. Create borders in your bullet journal
When designing various bujo spreads, you can create a border or frame around your page.
23. Create tables in your bullet journal
Whether you are designing a habit tracker or a weekly spread, instead of using a ruler and drawing lines, you can use washi tape instead.
24. Use on page edges to help bookmarking or use as tabs
Instead of using page tabs, you can make your own with your washi tapes. Alternatively, you can mark the corners of your bullet journal with the tapes.
25. Decorate your bullet journal pages
If you aren’t very artistic, but you still want an arty bullet journal, you should use colourful or patterned washi tapes to decorate the pages.
These are just some of the uses for washi tape. Other ideas could be:
- Cable ties
- Cover and protect your camera lenses on your devices
- Decorate your phone case
- Personalise your stationery
- Create layouts for stencilling
- Create neat edges
