Being organised is something that I think many of us want to be and are aspiring to be. Organisation is so much more than just turning in up on time and remembering what you need.
There are so many variations of organisation, it truly can mean different things to different people. One person might see a tidy home or workspace as their version of organised, for others it can be having a planner to keep them organised. However, if you do not relate to any of these but would like to become a more organised, there are some simple steps you can follow to start feeling more organised. There is no need to over complicate it. Try these 5 easy steps to organise your life.
1. Plan your week ahead of time
Preparation is key for everyone to be more successful. So, f you were to plan out your week, you are far more likely t be more organised in all areas of your life.
Planning your week could be using a paper planner, a family planner, your phone calendar or even a digital planner.
Once you have found your chosen way to plan, you can then start to organise your week. It is important what you trial different planner forms to find what you feel comfortable and productive with.
You can then start to pencil in your tasks and appointments for the week ahead. This means that you are aware I what you need to do and where you need to be as well as being far less likely to double book yourself or miss important deadlines. If you have a family, you can also include these activities and asks to help you.
To plan my week, I use a daily ring planner as well as using my Happy Panner for all my blog and social media tasks. I like to take some time on a Sunday to sit down, pull out my planners and plan for the upcoming week; it only takes a small amount of time away from my Sunday. However, when I wake up on a Monday morning, I can start with my to-do list, rather than wasting time planning.
2. Make a to-do list
Using to-do lists is an effective planning and organisation tool that you can use with minima effort. If you have a big task, using a to-do list enables you to break them down into more manageable chunks. Breaking down tasks can make them more achievable and less overwhelming.
So, if you find planners, whether paper-based or digital aren’t for you, imply using a to-do list might work better for you. Just listing your daily tasks can be quick an easy, which s perfect for people who have a busy schedule. There is something so satisfying and gratifying about checking off tasks from your list. It actually makes me more motivated and I find myself more productive as I want to tick off more tasks.
3. Prepare the night before
For a more organised start the following day, preparing your outfit, your meals and packing your bag can save you time and effort.
When you wake up, there is no need to rush around trying to get everything ready. It can make mornings more relaxed and you are ready for your day ahead.
I like to prepare the night before if I have an early appointment, so it reduces how stressful my morning can be. This is a practice that I will be using more when I start university in September. When I have an early lecture, I want to wake up and know I have everything already packed to have a successful day.
4. Have a tidy space
It is a well-known saying that a ‘tidy space means a tidy mind’. There are many variants of this saying, but it originates around 1947. It started out as ‘a cluttered-up desk is a sign of a cluttered-up mind’ and was even printed on gift items at the time. Another well-known quote is ‘out of clutter, find simplicity’ by Albert Einstein.
When you are working in a messy space, you are more likely to encounter distractions and could lead you to incomplete work or unachieved goals as well as causing you to struggle to find supplies it important papers.
I don’t know about you, but when I am working at my desk, I cannot concentrate on my current task if I am surrounded by mess. When my desk or home space is clean and tidy, I feel more organised, motivated and far more productive.
5. Set goals and track your progress
Setting goals, no matter how big, is a key element to your personal development. It helps you to learn, grow and challenge yourself o achieve whatever you set your mind to.
If you have set goals to work towards, you will be ensuring you are spending the time to complete the tasks. This means that you will be organising your time to achieve them.
By tracking your progress of your goals will help you to see what is working and what isn’t effective. This can highlight changes you can make to achieve more.
It is important that you make sure you make achievable and attainable goals.
These are just 5 simple steps to help you start being an organised person. Implementing these 5 simple habits can change your life and how you approach tasks. Everyone has the ability to be organised!
Do you practise any of these habits? Id love to hear in the comments.
Great post – I’ve started trying to plan out my weeks more in terms of what needs to be done by specific days. I completely agree with your point of tidy space equalling a tiny mind as whenever my workspace is cluttered I can never feel sane enough to work or be productive!
Thank you for reading and commenting! Glad it has been relatable and helpful
Journalling really does help me to stay focused!

Thank you!
You’re welcome!
I can’t work without a to do list. I constantly have one on the go. It has really helped me get straight with home working and schooling currently.
I’ve even got my 12 year old in to writing one each day so he knows what he has to do each day.
Great advice Lauren, thank you for sharing x
That’s so good!! 😊 can you link tour blog so I can read x
All great advice! I am pretty organized but sometimes I just don’t have time. Really though imagine the time I could be saving. And I completely agree neat spaces are so much easier to work in! 😁🏝
Sorry to hear your insta was hacked, thats awful!! I’m so for the belief that a cluttered house is a cluttered mind! I always need to tidy before I can be productive!! xo
Your planner is so pretty, I especially love the llama themed spread! I also use a weekly planner but it’s nowhere near as pretty as yours – I just scribble down the things I need to do on each day, no stickers or washi tape or anything. It keeps me organised though!

To do lists are a great way to keep you organised and motivated.
These are some fab tips Lauren and I am so bad at planning things ahead of time. I need to get organized. However, I do plan things for the day and think about it before going to bed. I guess there should be 36 hours in a day. 🙂

I LOVE making to do lists and planning out big projects like future travelling plans – these are some great tips! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I literally wont get anything done if I don’t have a to-do list lol
Personally, I find that making to-do lists doesn’t work for me. The list-maker people often end up doing things that aren’t the need of today, so I prefer the art of prioritization. Well, most of you won’t agree with me here.
But, I appreciate your insights and will surely try to implement the other steps you’ve mentioned. So, thankyou
I started getting into the habit of preparing the night before, because it leaves me more time during the day to do other things like yoga. Good post!
Definitely gives you more time. Thank you for reading and commenting.
I am looking for ways to revitalize my organization so this was great to read through. I find once I get into a really good routine that helps me — and making sure I don’t make things unnecessarily complicated. Thanks for this!
I am glad you found it helpful. It doesn’t need to be complicated at all. Thank you for reading and commenting.
I 100% agree that planning is the way to get more organised! Specifically for me, I thrive under structure – so if I need to be really organised for a specific day, time blocking and planning is key 😆
It is good you know what works best for you!
Writing down your goals does help you to see what you need to do. It is a good feeling when you are able to cross each goal off the list.
I always plan out everything the night before, so that way I can save a bit of time! I also love to-do lists, they come in very handy!
Definitely helps. Thank you for reading and commenting.
Being organized is both my dream and the bane of my existence. I love seeing everything just so and having a plan, but it is the execution of those processes that I do not particularly love. This post is a big help, thank you for sharing!
Thank you for reading and commenting. I am glad you were able to relate to this post.
I love lists and the ability to cross items off – and celebrate them!
On Sundays I usually plan my goals for the next week, and I also have a daily to-do list which I make the night before. The only one of these I’m not so good at is keeping my space tidy! I agree with you that it’s easier to focus in a tidy environment.
I am glad you could relate to this blog post. Thank you for reading and commenting.
These are all great ideas to be more organized! Thanks for sharing these helpful tips! 🙂

I have been trying to be organised but it can get tough keeping up, I will try using more to do list and setting goals. Thanks for the post!
Thank you for reading and commenting.
I agree with all of these points. Planning ahead is especially important— it saves a lot of time each morning. tidying up the space is another big one. I don’t like to clean my space before I start the work. I like to dive in.
I always try to be prepared at least the night before, but lately with taking on more at work, it’s been hard. I do plan on sitting down this Sunday evening, however, and having everything planned for next week going forward as best I can!
