Now we have moved into Autumn and before we know it Christmas will be around the corner, we need to make sure our wardrobes have those essential pieces. Just because you have to wrap up doesn’t mean you can’t do it in style.
Autumn/Winter fashion is at the moment my current favourite, I love layering up and digging out my favourite jumpers and jackets, one being my faux leather jacket. I love pairing that with my outfits. Just because the weather is colder it doesn’t mean you can’t be outside, just layer up with your Autumn/Winter essentials and embrace the season.
So, whether you are in serious need of a wardrobe organise and reset or you are just wanting to build up your basics to always have perfect outfits, this post is for you. Do you have these essentials in your wardrobe?
1. Long-sleeve tops or bodysuits
For any outfit having a basic long-sleeved top or bodysuit to either of underneath a jacket or a jumper. So, it can be worn on its own or with a jumper over it – depending on the temperature. These tops and bodysuits are usually fairly affordable and can come in a range of colours. For me, I have several black ones as well as some other colours and designs.
2. Boots
If you live in the UK you will be well aware of Autumn/Winter weather and how it can bring a lot of rain. On a rainy Autumn/Winter day the last thing you need is being stuck in wet shoes, so boots are always a great choice. They can keep your feet dry but also so warm. I have just brought a pair of short boots as I didn’t have any suitable boots for wet weather. I also like that my boots have a bit of a platform, which is always great for me as I am not very tall! But, there are so many different styles of boots, so you can buy boots to suit your preference and your style.

3. Gilets
A gilet is the perfect essential for days where there is a chill in the air, but you don’t want to wear a coat. You can get so many different styles and colours to suit any style; including quilted designs, lightweight designs and many more. You can wear jumpers, hoodies or long-sleeve tops underneath your gilet to stay warm. Gilets for women have come back around and are now the staple for Autumn/Winter fashion.
4. Jumpers
Jumpers are one of my favourite pieces to wear, I am definitely a jumper girly. There are SO many different jumpers styles, designs, fits and there are jumpers for everyone. With the colder weather coming in you definitely need that extra layer to take away the chill. You can have knitted jumpers, cotton jumpers but also you can include sweatshirts in this. There are so many different ones to choose from, that can be paired with a simple pair of jeans, leggings or even an autumnal skirt or dress. Again, like gilets jumpers can be a choice if you don’t want to wear a big heavy winter coat or jacket.
5. Tailored trousers
Tailored trousers are now not just for the office or working outfits, they have come onto the fashion scene and it is definitely a popular trend you see for Autumn and Winter fashion. You can have so many different types of tailored trousers from skinny leg, straight leg and wide leg. So you can choose wide leg tailored trousers, with some heels or boots. The rich tones and patterns can be a key look for this Autumn/Winter, you can even add a belt to give you more definition.

6. Winter coat
The Autumn/Winter weather can not only be freezing cold but rainy, so the need for a winter coat is definitely a must especially in the UK. So a good quality winter coat is a must to keep you dry and warm. There are so many different women’s winter coats to choose from, different fibres, colours, fits, styles and designs that there is something for everyone’s preferences. I have certainly noticed having brought coats over the years, you can definitely tell the difference when it comes to quality.
7. Cardigans
Cardigans are a great layer option, so whether you are wearing a t-shirt, cami top or dress, adding a cardigan to your outfit will help not only to keep you warm, but to pull an outfit together. Or button up the cardigan and wear it as a top. It is another versatile staple that you can add and bring in neutral tones into your autumn wardrobe. You can choose from cardigans that are knitted, ribbed or plain cotton, that also can have buttons. I have a neutral brown cardigan and it has a v-neckline and three big buttons lower down the cardigan but I love the chunky knitted style.
8. Jeans
Jeans are a timeless essential for any season, but especially in the Autumn and Winter times and they can be styled with SO many options. There are so many different cuts and styles of jeans, so there is something for everyone and a jean cut for every outfit idea. Wide-leg jeans have become a popular trend for Autumn and everyone is embracing the baggy jeans, adding it with a knit or you can refine your look with a shirt tucked in and add a blazer. Jeans are so versatile. I prefer skinny jeans and I do have a pair of mom jeans and pairing them with shirts, jumpers and knits is a go-to outfit for me.
These are some go-to staples for an Autumn/Winter wardrobe for you to be able to create the perfect outfits. Here is a list of other Autumn/Winter essentials for your wardrobe:
- Fitted shirts/or boxy shirts
- Sweatshirts
- Blazers
- Leather jacket/faux leather jacket
- Trench coats
- Collared knits
- Black leggings
- Skirts
- Tights
- Knitted dresses
- Knitted vests

I hope this post has given you some ideas for your autumn and winter outfits and help you build your wardrobe essentials to create the cutest outfits.

Tailored trousers seem to becoming a staple in my wardrobe at the moment. Although I casual them down with trainers. I’m not sure about the gilet trend, I’m seeing them all over, but I don’t think they’re my type of thing. Maybe I need to try one on to see – Because I thought the same with puffer coats and now I live in them at winter time!
