9 Ways To Show Yourself Love

Happy Valentines Day! When people say show yourself some love and care for yourself. I think society has programmed it in that a good bubble bath or a face mask will suffice. Which of course is okay if you want to do that, but self care and love is about so much more than pampering.

I think self love is so important, I mean how do you expect others to love you, if you do not love yourself? I have made the decision this year to start practising acceptance and personal growth.

I have 9 different ways you can show yourself love and these are acts you should start practising right away.

#1 Do not beat yourself up when you fail

Everyone fails at something at some point in their life, no one is born amazing at something. Failing allows you to learn and develop. The most successful people, never got everything right first time. I have been guilty of putting myself down if I fail. But I am  learning to embrace these and learn from them.

#2 Give yourself a break

Life can be incredibly busy and so it is important to remember to take a break. Whether that is having a day off or neglecting the hoovering for an afternoon to give yourself a rest.

#3 Say NO

When you are asked by friends, coworkers or for work commitments to go to an event or work on something, so many people have an overwhelming sense to say yes. How many times have said yes when you really wanted to say no? I know I have done this a lot. This year I am going to do what I want but of course being polite and turning down the invitation.

#4 Do more of the things you love

When you are participating in activities you love, it makes you happy and releases endorphins. It can help with aspects of mental health. Life is for living and you should enjoy things you love.

#5 Write down your goals and dreams without self judgement

Have you ever thought about a job you would love to do or a dream holiday and then thought I could never do that, or I am not good enough to do that job? Having them written down, putting positivity into the universe. You need to appreciate your good qualities in being able to achieve your goals. You have the ability to achieve your goals.

#6 Spend more time outside or in nature

Being outside or in nature helps to ground you and boosts moods. Walks for example are great for gentle exercise. Looking after your body is so important and being outside and spending time in nature is a great way to care for yourself. I always feel so much relaxed after being at the beach or out for a walk.

#7 Eating healthy

This does NOT mean diet! Looking after your body from the inside out is one key aspect of self love. Respecting what you are putting into your body, you only get one. It means having a healthy balance. I am starting to become more aware of what foods I am eating. This aspect of self love is high on my priorities list.

#8 Doing what is best for you and not others

It is your life and your decisions to make, unfortunately some people will always make judgements. I am learning and practising to care less what other people think and do what I think is best for me. You have to look after yourself, right?

#9 Cut the negativity from your life

Whether that be a person or a situation, if possible cut that from your life. Negativity breeds negativity. It can be a difficult decision to make, however can help improve your mental health too. I started doing this last year, life is too short, I only want to surround myself with positive and supportive people. When you surround yourself with people who boost your confidence and motivate you to be better.

These are 9 ways you can show yourself love with of course lots of bubble baths and face masks! What ways do you show love to yourself? How are you spending Valentines Day today? I’d love to hear in the comments.

  1. I 100 percent agree with this I recently took some annual leave just so I could
Focus on myself? Sounds selfish but it really wasn’t! It was infact incredible and saying No ! I am a people pleaser but learning to say no ( or to say yes) on my terms for when I want to do it has been something I am learning to do! X

Doing more of the things we love is such a good one, being creative definitely makes me feel happier and calmer. Saying no when necessary and surrounding ourselves with people who are kind and supportive is such a positive step for our wellbeing too 🙂 Thank you for sharing and hope you are having a lovely day! xx

  4. Woah! Great minds think alike. I PROMISE I read this post after. 😭 Anyway, I love how you talked about some amazing tips on HOW to show yourself some love. There are so many advice pieces that have the same mantra about what it is and it’s usually a mask or bath, that’s what I was saying, too. My favorites are number 1 and number 6. (:

Again, I’m so sorry for how similar my post is to this. I didn’t even notice until now. I’ll change my images once I get back to the computer. (:

I wish you the best on your journey!

  7. Still learning to do 1,2 and 4. I have perfectionist tendencies so these all come unnatural to me. But this year, I vowed to give myself more grace and free up more time for things that I love. Thanks so much for this post, Lauren.

  8. I agree with you and I have done a lot of times as well. I can’t say no but I figured its time to give myself a chance of having control and do things whenever I want.

  9. These are such great things to implement into your life on the everyday. I think it’s so important to be able to say no when it won’t benefit you because it’s something that can be quite difficult to do. I’m so happy I read this and I will definitely remind me of this when I need some self love!

  10. Great post! I have been trying to say ‘no’ more mainly at work as was getting overwhelmed and due to this I made a pact with myself this year to spend more time on myself. Like you said about things you enjoy, I treated myself with birthday money to a Nintendo Switch Lite and have really enjoyed just relaxing on an evening, has made a huge difference

  11. This is a good reminder for me. I spend so much of my time caring for others and taking care of my business and house. Self care and self love is so important.

  12. YES! A bath and a face mask are great but can only do so much. You gotta show yourself compassion at the same time. For me, reminding myself that even the most successful people didn’t get things perfect on the first try is something I need to learn to do more of. And give myself a break. I’m really guilty of being too hard on myself. Sometimes you just need that reminder that it’s okay to rest up. Self-care IS about self-love and I think these steps are so important. Great post!

  13. I endorse all 9 actions on this list to show yourself love. We are on the same wave length because my quote on Instagram and Facebook today is about learning to say no. Excellent tips.

  14. Having the strength to say “no” and to take a break can often be such a struggle, but it is an important lesson that we all need to learn. I know that this is something that I still struggle with in my personal and work-life, but I’m slowly learning.

  15. Ooooh I love this so much! You’re right, self-love is not just about bubble baths and skin care (thought that is fun sometimes!). I loved ALL of the ideas you suggested. Not only are they great for self-care, but they also cross over with tips for having better mental health too! Cutting out negativity and saying “no” are things I’m working on to help out my anxiety and depression and they’ve helped so much. This was such a good post to remind us that we deserve love and care too and to show that to ourselves. ❤

    1. That’s great you are working on those! I hope you keep striving for that! Mental health and self care and love are very much linked and can have a knock on affect. Thank you for reading and commenting xx

  16. Loving yourself first is absolutely important!

I wish saying no were easier; I feel like once you’re married the other person has a hard time respecting what you say no too, especially if it has to do with their family. I hate family functions, they make me uncomfortable but my husband who comes from a big family doesn’t understand why. Sigh.

  17. It’s so important to remember that self care isn’t all about pampering and it can be the little things that really make a difference. I think learning to say no is my favourite out of these – sometimes the guilt you get from it makes it difficult, but it’s so well needed especially when you’ve got far too much on! Xx
